After falling behind by five runs in the first inning, the Seattle Mariners came back to beat the New York Yankees, 15-11 last night.
Now, what's worse: having a strained hamstring or an ERA over 7.00?
Mind you, Kei Igawa (2-1, 7.63 ERA) had a five-run lead to work with here. He still managed to allow three home runs and 6 other hits for a total of 8 runs. He struck out two and walked one.
Cha Seung Baek (0-0, 7.53 ERA) only lasted 3.2 innings for Seattle, not doing quite as much damage as Igawa. Baek only allowed 7 runs on 8 hits, struck out four and walked two.
Every single starter in the Mariners' batting order had a hit and a run scored and seven of nine had RBIs for a season-high 20 hits combined. Jose Lopez drove in four runs and Raul Ibanez had four hits.
Jose Guillen, Kenji Johjima, Yuniesky Betancourt and Lopez - the bottom four batters in the Mariners starting lineup - combined to go 9-for-18 with 10 RBIs as Seattle scored its most runs in three years.
The icing on Miss Lizzy's cake: Derek Jeter went 0-for-6 for only the third time in his big league career, ending his hitting streak at 20 games and his club's win streak at three.
