Adam Loewen May Be Out a While

Baltimore Orioles starter Adam Loewen will be sidelined for most of the season with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow. The lefty was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday after an MRI and bone scan determined the injury.

Loewen won't begin a throwing program for at least eight weeks and could potentially face surgery, but the club wants to take some time before deciding on a course of action. He was 2-0 with a 3.56 ERA in six starts this season.

To replace Loewen on the roster, the O's picked up the contract of righty reliever Todd Williams from the AAA Norfolk Tides, though Brian Burres will likely pitch in Loewen's place on his next scheduled start Sunday against the Cleveland Indians.
