Cincinnati Reds center fielder Ryan Freel was taken off the field on a stretcher yesterday after colliding with right fielder Norris Hopper. The two were running down a Humberto Cota fly ball in the third inning when they smashed into each other, leaving Freel stunned and motionless on the warning track for 13 minutes.
Tests came back normal, as Freel was diagnosed with a contusion on his head and neck. However, he will be re-evaluated today.
His teammates claim that "his hard-nosed hustle" inspired them to turn some insane defensive plays that helped Kyle Lohse

I hate to sound insensitive... and maybe the angle I saw the collision at wasn't a good one... but it didn't seem like that should have knocked him out.
It was probably the hard spin, not the actual collision.
But Farney will go on the 15-day DL.
