It's getting to be that time of year when clubs weed out the crap.
In the midst of a heated battle to make the Colorado Rockies' 40-man-roster, catcher Javy Lopez has been released.
Lopez had agreed to an unguaranteed $750,000, one-year contract with the club back in January and will receive 30 days termination pay of $122,951.
The right-hander played in two World Series with the Atlanta Braves, earning the MVP of the 1996 NLCS. He has a .287 career batting average with 267 doubles, 260 homers and 864 RBIs, so maybe some other team that's hard-up for a catcher will remember those details. Probably not, though.
