Chavez Takes the Minor League Route

Endy Chavez has agreed to enter the minor leagues through a contract with the Texas Rangers, including an invitation to their spring training camp.

The outfielder is recovering from knee surgery he underwent last July and probably won’t be healed in time to start the regular season anyway.

He played in just 54 games for the Seattle Mariners last season before tearing his ACL when he collided with shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt chasing a popup in short left field on June 19th.

Endy Chavez to Land on the DL?

The New York Mets' outfield was already in shambles before Wednesday night when Endy Chavez left the game against the Philadelphia Phillies with an injured hamstring that will likely land him on the disabled list.

In the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and one out - the Mets trailing by one - Chavez tried to run out a grounder to short. Instead, he forced a double play and collapsed to the ground in pain.

Chavez will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday. Normally a backup, he is batting .292 with one homer and 13 RBIs in 47 games this season.

On the bright side, Shawn Green is optimistic that he'll be ready to return from a broken right foot when he's eligible this Sunday. He has not played since May 25th.

Old school left fielder Moises Alou also is on the DL with a frustrating quadriceps injury. There is no timetable set for his return.
