Yankees Beat Twins in Game One

The New York Yankees played and won their first postseason game at the new Yankee Stadium Wednesday night, coming away with an impressive 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of their ALDS.

CC Sabathia ate his way through the Twins lineup, tossing 6.2 solid innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts to walk away with a 1.35 ERA. The Twins had a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning after a clutch two-out hit from Michael Cuddyer before MVP candidate Joe Mauer scored on a passed ball. That's all the scoring they did.

The Yanks came right back to tie it up on a two-run jack off Twins starter Scott Baker from the bat of Derek Jeter, the other MVP candidate. They padded their lead when Hideki Matsui busted the game wide open with a two-run homer in the fifth off reliever Francisco Liriano. Are pitchers supposed to suck that bad after Tommy John?

After a day of rest, Game 2 will take place at the Mall with a Ballfield in the Middle at 6:07 ET.

Ai agree with your comment about Francisco Liriano. I keep hoping that Gardy will realize that Francisco isn't going to get any better and trade/release him. We've waited 2 years for Liriano to improve and it just hasn't happened ...
