Karstens Dominates D'Backs

Pittsburgh Pirates new-comer Jeff Karstens kicked ass Wednesday night, out-pitching veteran Randy Johnson and shutting down the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 2-0, two-hit victory.

The recently-acquired righty showed off all four of his pitches, sending down the first 23 batters he saw before Chris Young lined a two-out double in the eighth. Impressively, he struck out four and reached a three-ball count just twice through the first eight innings.

Karstens, who joined the Bucs in a six-player trade on July 26th, has tossed 15 scoreless innings against two first-place teams since the deal. Not too shabby.
