Arizona Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb was named the National League's Pitcher of the Month for April. This should come as no surprise, since the right-hander won each of his first six starts of the month and held his ERA to 1.98 with 34 strikeouts over 41 innings. These victories also came by way of non-stop run support from the 20-8 Diamondbacks. Teamwork! Webb has been pretty awesome for the past couple of seasons, winning the NL Cy Young in 2006 and voted runner-up last season to San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavy.
On Saturday, Webb improved to 7-0 in his club's 10-4 victory over the New York Mets, allowing four earned runs on five hits over six innings.
If history tells us anything at all, next on Webb's agenda may be a second Cy Young. The last D'Backs hurler to win his first six starts of the season was Randy Johnson in 2002. Yeah, he won a Cy Young that year.

Cleveland Indians lefty Cliff Lee was honored as the American League's Pitcher of the Month for April, after posting an incredible 0.96 ERA to accompany his 5-0 record. He has allowed just 19 hits and 2 walks with 32 strikeouts over 73.2 innings. Not bad.
Lee, off to the best start in baseball, surrendered just one run in his first four outings, for 27 scoreless innings that ended Wednesday with an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
If Lee keeps plugging away, he would be the #1 candidate for the American League’s Comeback Player of the Year award after his horrible 2007 season, which he began on the DL, never regaining his form from the previous years and ending the year with a 5-8 record and 6.29 ERA over 20 games.

Those were no-brainers as well. Where have you gone, Johan Santana?
