Kenji Johjima and the Seattle Mariners agreed Friday to a three-year, $24 million contract extension, keeping the veteran catcher around through 2011.As the first Japanese backstop in the big leagues, Johjima hit .291 and .287 in his first two seasons with the Mariners -- decent -- but was batting just .200 coming into Friday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics.
Manager John McLaren mentioned that Johjima's recent lack of a contract may have been affecting his offensive play, which the catcher totally denied.
"My struggling offensively has nothing to do with my contract," he said.Maybe next time, Jeff Clement. And Rob Johnson.

Sweet crotch shot. Why are the Marinerds hogging all the catchers??
Johjima isn't that great. He's average at best, and it's a damn shame Jeff Clement won't get a shot at the plate until he's injured.
