Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Doug Davis has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The 32-year-old lefty struggled in his exhibition start against Colorado Friday night, surrendering back-to-back-to-back longballs in the second inning. Overall, he gave up eight runs on nine hits, striking out five.
Weird! I don't know about you guys, but if I was just diagnosed with cancer, I'm not sure how well I'd pitch, either.
Davis is expected to have surgery on April 10th, but the club has no idea when they'll see him pitch next.

Sad. He probably pitched toay because he knows it could be the last outing for a long time.
Cancer doesn't discriminate. Learn more here.
I know how much it sucks to have a player diagnosed with cancer... -looks at Jon Lester- But you can have a heroic comeback and pitch the winning game of the World Series, Doug!
The club is expecting that Davis will be out four to six weeks, which does seem like a quick return considering he's having surgery for thyroid cancer...but that's the plan at this point. Davis' mother and sister have both had thyroid cancer and made full recoveries. So, that's a great sign for Doug...thoughts and prayers to you and your family and for a full recovery.
