The New York Yankees have reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year, $3.75 million deal with old school reliever LaTroy Hawkins.
The soon-to-be 35-year-old righty went 2-5 with a 3.42 ERA last season for the Colorado Rockies, making $3.25 million before the club declined their $3.75 million option to hurl him into free agency with a $250,000 buyout instead.
Though the Yanks transformed minor league-starter Joba Chamberlain into a setup man for the last couple months of the season, they plan to include him in the rotation next year, so this move may prove as wise considering the instability of Kyle Farnsworth and the lack of a veteran presence in middle relief.
Don't worry Bronx Bomber fans, it's only a year.

WHAT? The Yanks have signed an old-washed up pitcher to a one-year contract? That is so unlike them!

Who is LaTroy Hawkins?
I still take contention with the headline. LaTroy Hawkins doesn't play baseball. He plays team golf.
Sussman, you are absolutely correct... which is why I've added the question mark! Poor punctuation is my middle name.
