Boston Red Sox veteran hurler Curt Schilling wrote goodbye letters to his teammates after he filed for free agency this week.Instead of retiring like an intelligent person coming off of a World Series title would, Schilling feels he has at least one more year left in his 41-year-old arm.
Schilling went 9-8 with a 3.87 ERA this season, and 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in the playoffs. On his list of 13 possible destinations where Boston is #1, Schilling left out the New York Yankees.
Following him down the free-agent trail this week is backup outfielder
The other big dog in Boston eligible for free agency is third baseman Mike Lowell, who reached career highs with a .324 average and 120 RBIs before being honored as the 2007 World Series MVP.

Mirabelli and Gagne filed for free agency too. I can't decide how I feel about Mirabelli, and there are no (good) words for how I feel about Gagne.
Gagne is a whole other post, my friend.
The Sox are gonna be a whole other team next year.
