A-Rod Says Thanks, But No Thanks

Whether the timing of this announcement was meant to be a distraction from their rival Boston Red Sox World Series victory, we may never know.

One thing is clear, however. Alex Rodriguez has backed out of his record $252 million, 10-year contract and put the ball in the court of the New York Yankees, who said earlier this week they would not offer the star third baseman a deal if he were to opt out.

Superagent Scott Boras informed Yanks GM Brian Cashman by way of text message that A-Rod will now become a free agent, which should make this year's winter meetings that much more interesting.

In closing, A-Rod fans may be reminded of the REO Speedwagon classic "Roll With The Changes" in which singer/songwriter Kevin Cronin says,

"So if youre tired of the same old story, turn some pages. I'll be here when you are ready to roll with the changes."
Cause once you go A-Rod, you never go back... or so I hear.

Enter Peter Magowan. Let's overpay another tempermental crybaby superstar too much money to be the face of an inept franchise. BRILLIANT!

The ONLY way I'd get over Torii Hunter not signing with the Twins (IF it happens.. I'm still holding out hope) is if SOMEHOW the Twins find some loose change in the cushions and sign A-Rod.
I guess this is why we have fantasy baseball, no?

pookeyguru, I like the way you think.

Have the Giants sign A-Rod and the Yankees sign Bonds. Then we can still dislike both teams.
