Bobby Kielty, a Bostonian since mid-August, was chosen to start for the Red Sox over regular right-fielder J.D. Drew during Friday night's Championship Series opener, due to his rabid success against Cleveland Indians starter C.C. Sabathia. The switch-hitting Kielty is a career 9-for-29 with two bombs and four strikeouts against the Tribe's ace lefty, while Drew has struck out all three times he has faced Captain Cheeseburger.
Drew went 2-for-11 with three RBIs in the division series against the Los Angeles Angels while Kielty didn't play at all during the sweep.
After signing a hefty $70 million, five-year contract as a free agent before the season, Drew hit .270 with just 11 longballs and 64 RBIs before bouncing back late in the season.
Kielty, on the other hand, hit .231 with 1 homer and 9 RBIs in 52 at bats for the Sox this season.
