White Sox Suddenly a Hot Ticket

Even though the White Sox have been in what could charitably be described as a "slump" for the 2007 season, Jim Thome gave the South Siders something to look forward to in an otherwise dismal September: #500.

Thome went yard for the 499th time last night against the Cleveland Indians, his original ballclub, en route to the White Sox 7-4 victory. That puts this weekend's home series against the Angels (after today's day off) firmly in the crosshairs of Thome's bat... and probably also means sales for tickets at the Cell for Friday's game just went through the roof.

Jim Thome was, as always, reflectively sweet about the night.
"My little girl [Lila] was there, jumping around," Thome said. "I was looking at my dad and sister. That's the great thing about baseball. It kind of brings your family together. The tradition … you come together, not only as teammates, but family as well."
It also means Sox fans, and the Sox players and coaches, have smiles on their faces for maybe the first time since Buehrle's no-hitter way back in April. Even Ozzie Guillen is getting into the spirit.
"It’s something to look forward to, especially for myself. Every time Thome hits a home run, it makes it easy for me to come and talk (to the media) about the game. [...] Now he has a good chance to do it here in Chicago. Hopefully he comes through in those three games. It’s always nice to see something like, especially with the way we’re going."
Thome would be the first White Sox player ever to reach that 500 HR milestone.

At least they have something to be happy about in the south side of the Windy City.

It's time to extend Francona's contract now for winning.

Guillen's team sucked all year and he gets an extension

I will always look at Frank Thomas as being the first White Sox player to hit 500 home runs...it's just a shame that he did it as a Blue Jay.
