San Diego Padres righty Clay Hensley has elected to have season-ending surgery Friday morning to repair a tear in his pitching shoulder. After undergoing an MRI in July when the tear was discovered, he tried to pitch through the pain and ended up hurting himself even more.
However, the 28-year-old finally decided to end his season in favor of surgery.
"At least now I can go into next year healthy and go forward with it and put this year behind me," Hensley said. "I know it wasn't a good season, but at least I got to play."The 28-year-old pitcher went 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA over 13 games this season, nine of which were starts.
