With a single to center field in the seventh inning against the Colorado Rockies Thursday night, Craig Biggio hit the big one: Number 3,000.
The 41-year-old second baseman was thrown out trying to stretch the milestone into a double.
The entire Houston Astros team rushed the field, along with his wife, 3 children and longtime friend and teammate Jeff Bagwell, who retired this past December.
"I couldn't have scripted it any better," Biggio said. "There are a lot of things that have happened over the past 20 years but tonight is the best."Bigs then passed Hall of Fame legend Roberto Clemente to become 26th on the career list with no. 3001 and hit #3002 in the 11th for a season-high five-hit game.
He's the only player in the history of the game to have at least 600 doubles, 250 bombs, 3,000 hits and 400 stolen bags.
As the longest-tenured player in the Astros' franchise history, Biggio has played every game of his 20-year career with Houston.

This morning, subbing for Mike & Mike, Eric Casilias said he didn't know if Biggio should be in the Hall of Fame. There was a pause and then Buster Olney said something like "uh, well, I'll be voting for him."
Babes love Beasties!
