Squeeze Play: Minnesota Twins @ Milwaukee Brewers
Recently called-up right-hander Scott Baker and the Minnesota Twins (19-22) will take on righty Dave Bush and the amazing Milwaukee Brewers (26-16) in the second game of the Interleague border-rival series at 7:05pm ET tonight.
Usually, baseball brings people together. However, this weekend is one of two every year where my family is torn apart. Sweet!
Last season, Minnesota took an 18-24 record into the first Interleague series against the Brewers. They finished 14-2, which tied with the Boston Red Sox for the best Interleague record in the majors and played a part in the Twins' rally to finish 96-66 to steal the AL Central title from the Detroit Tigers. Considering yesterday's performance, could the Twins be on their way to a similar run? Please?
Former Brewer Jeff Cirillo hit a triple and a home run to aid the Twins in an 8-1 rout over his old team while Torii Hunter, who is on a freakin' roll right now, drove in 5 runs, including a huge grand slam (his second of the season.)
The Brewers may have dropped five of their last six and have lost their last six Interleague games, but they remain a force to be reckoned with with the likes of J.J. Hardy, who is tied with Carlos Lee for the NL lead with 39 RBIs and Rickie Weeks, who is set to return from a sore wrist this series.
Bush has lowered his ERA in each of his last three starts and is 0-2 with a 3.55 ERA against the Twins in two career starts, both of which came in 2005 when he pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Baker, called up yesterday to replace the recently-dumped Sidney Ponson, has made 25 starts for the Twins over the last two seasons, compiling an 8-11 record and 5.19 ERA. He earned the win at Milwaukee last May, when he gave up four runs in five innings of Minnesota's 16-10 victory.
