Ryan Langerhans may not be welcome in Atlanta, but he's more than welcome in Oakland.
The Athletics patched up their outfield a bit on Sunday, acquiring Langerhans in a trade with the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later or cash. Preferably cash.
Langerhans is slated to start in center for the opener of a two-game series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, hoping a fresh start will rid him of the 3-for-44 (.068) slump he's in.
Langerhans can play all three outfield spots, which gives the club some much needed flexibility in the absence of Mark Kotsay, recovering from back surgery on the 60-day DL, and right fielder Milton Bradley, on the 15-day DL with a strained left hamstring.
But it doesn't end there. Nick Swisher has been out with a strained left hammy while Bobby Kielty is still nursing a strained left calf awaiting a trip to the DL.
This marks the second trade in three days for the sickly defending AL West champs, who picked up outfielder Chris Denorfia - recovering from Tommy John surgery on his (right) throwing elbow and not expected to play until 2008 - in a trade with Cincinnati on Friday that sent righty Marcus McBeth to the Reds on Saturday as one of two players to be named in the deal.
To make room on the roster, Oakland optioned Dallas Braden to AAA Sacramento.

It makes me laugh when a guy gets traded for 'a player to be named later or cash'.
It's a bit like saying "we just wanted rid of that dude, we'll sort out the details later"
Haha, exactly.
Nice picture.
Well, he's certainly hot enough to join the stable of A's racehotties.
Is it even possible for their roster to get any better-looking?
If they pick up anyone else, my head might explode from hottie-overload.
Well, they could sign me...
I'm smokin' ;)
