Hank Aaron Holds The Record In Our Hearts

'I'm 72 years old, and I'm not hopping on a plane and flying all the way to San Francisco for anybody.'
"I'm 72 years old, and I'm not hopping on a plane and flying all the way to San Francisco for anybody." - Hank Aaron
Hank Aaron doesn't plan to be around if and when Barry Bonds breaks his home run record. He won't attend the San Francisco Giants series, either, when they come to Atlanta to face the Braves in mid-August.

Barry is 20 bombs short of the record - 755 homers - that Aaron set on July 20, 1976. The chances of him breaking the record are pretty good if he remains healthy this season.

The Hall of Famer told Terence Moore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he'd probably fly to West Palm Beach to play golf if Bonds achieves his goal. He said it has nothing to do with anybody, other than he's had enough of it.
"I don't want to be around that sort of thing anymore. I just want to be at peace with myself... It's going to be a no-win situation for me anyway. If I go, people are going to say, 'Well, he went because of this.' If I don't go, they'll say whatever. I'll just let them make their own mind up."
Aaron also said that commissioner Bud Selig told him that Bonds has asked several times why Aaron hasn't called him as he gets closer to the record. Aaron simply said that he doesn't really talk to anyone, and has never spoken with Bonds other than a commercial they did together a few years back. With all the controversy surrounding Bonds' career, why should the great Hammerin' Hank be excited at all? Leave the man alone in his greatness.

Good for Hank!
Stupid Barry Bonds may beat the record.. But he'll always know how he got there.. and we'll always wonder how many of those were legit.
And is it me or do Sports Center and Baseball Tonight care nothing about anything other than the Skankees or Barry Bonds? Good freaking golly...

Hank will always be the homerun king! Even if he lent his voice to a forgettable episode of Futurama.
