Carlos Silva (8-13, 6.56 ERA) got another loss Friday night at Yankee Stadium in the series opener, as the Twins got totally smashed and held to one lonely run. In four innings, he allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits, walking one and striking out four batters. The runs started an inning at a time with one in the second - an Alex Rodriguez home run (28), and another in the third off a Bobby Abreu single.
The real trouble came in the fifth, after two straight singles by Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter. Abreu came to the plate and singled again on a liner to center, scoring two. Yankees up 4-0. Giambi then reached on a throw-out attempt, an error by Justin Morneau (2 for 4), allowing all runners to advance. Bags loaded. After Rodriguez singled, Silva was finally pulled and replaced by Matt Guerrier (2.98 ERA). One strikeout later, Robinson Cano singles to score Abreu. Then Aaron Guiel grounds out, scoring Jason Giambi. That would end the scoring for the inning.
In the seventh, New York scored another run on another A-Rod bomb to left (29). After a Jorge Posada double, Guerrier was replaced by Willie Eyre (5.33 ERA). After a pop out and a walk, he gave up an RBI single to Melky Cabrera. New York 8, Twins 0. It ended up being a 14-hit fiesta for the Yankees. No bueno for the Twins. They had 3 total errors in the game, all of which ended up being costly. Looks like there'll be some gloves in the nuker tonight.
Corey Lidle (11-9, 4.46 ERA) pitched six innings, giving up only two walks and striking out four Twins. Four relievers later, Minnesota managed to spoil the shutout in the top of the ninth with a Canadian Crusher RBI double, but couldn't keep it going.

The Twins put Scott Baker (3-7, 6.93 ERA) on the mound Saturday afternoon...maybe (unless it rains) to face Jeff Karstens (1-0, 4.63 ERA) and the rest of those effing Yankees. Someone needs to help Karstens with his eyebrow penciling.

You know, I hate to say it. But our team is worn out, bumps are all over the road, and the news about Brad Radke is so SICKLY sad. Our boys are on a 20 straight games road trip and I don't want to see them get too worn out. They need something to get that spark and energy flowing again. And they need starting pitchers to recognize this and step it up. Still love these guys, but it's tough right now. I hope we can do something in NY tomorrow. Time to take a stand!! That and I'm just about going crazy from lack of seeing the Twins in person. Haha
I'm seriously hoping things work themselves out.
The Twins have worked so hard and come so far in the past 5 months, you'd hate to see them fall apart now.
We gotta take this series. That's all there is to it.
