First, I'd like to welcome Brian (JoeMantle) to babes that love baseball! He's awesome, and I'm really excited to be working with him on this blog. He has a vast knowledge and love for baseball and the Minnesota Twins, and I think it's going to be really fun to see what he comes up with here. We'll be trying to write every other blog, and hopefully we'll be writing into October together!
Boof Bonser (3-4, 5.18 ERA) pitched 6.2 strong innings in the Twins' 11-2 win over the Orioles in Baltimore Thursday night, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits to pick up his first victory since June 24, and his first career win on the road. Bonser gave up 4 hits in the first six innings, allowing only two batters to reach second base before the seventh.
This is about the time Boof started to struggle. First he gave up a leadoff single, and then with one out in the seventh, Ramon Hernandez hit his first home run in almost two months, completely ruining Boof's shutout. After giving up a two-out double to Brandon Fahey, Bonser was replaced by Dennys Reyes, who forced a groundout to end the inning. Jesse Crain struck out two in the eighth and Matt Guerrier pitched the ninth. See, that's the thing about the Twins Bullpen. The starter doesn't necessarily have to go all seven innings, even though we'd like them to. These relief pitchers are outstanding, and the Twins can really count on them to hold the lead.
Minnesota gave Bonser an early lead to work from, scoring in four of the first five innings against starter Kris (Kristin) Benson (10-10, 4.88 ERA), who tied a season high by allowing 10 hits. Good job, buddy! Joe Mauer got a hit in each of his first three at-bats and drove home 4 runs, scoring 2 himself. His average has climbed back up to .361! Torii Hunter hit a solo shot (19) in the fifth inning, smashing his fourth home run in seven games. Justin Morneau went 1 for 3 and blasted a 2 run homer, his 32nd of the year.
Michael Cuddyer had an another amazing night at the plate, as well. He went 4 for 4 with 4 hits, 4 RBIs and a run scored. This was the fourth time this month he's had at least three hits in a game. Cuddy is 17-for-40 (.425) with seven extra-base hits and 15 RBIs in his last 10 games. Who's Nutty for Cuddy? This girl.
Thursday night gave the Twins at least 15 hits for the second straight night, including six for extra bases. All nine Twinkies reached, the first eight had base hits and seven different players scored a run. Well done!

Oh man, it's time to let the piranhas out of the tank. (Which means it's time to get serious.) The Twins leave Baltimore and head to the South Side for an important divisional series against their rival White Sox. Game 1 will be reviewed and blogged by JoeMantle, as he will be there...rowdy and completely out of control, I'm sure.
Brad Radke (12-9, 4.35 ERA) takes the mound Friday evening in a dog fight against Javier Vazquez (11-8, 5.13 ERA) and the Chicago White Sox.
