Tampa Bay Rays Making AL Wild Card Race Interesting

After beating the Boston Red Sox 6-5 in 11 exciting innings Saturday night, the Tampa Bay Rays are pushing to make this an exciting September.

The Rays are sitting at a season-best 16 games over .500 at 80-64 heading into Sunday's series finale that pits Red Sox lefty Jon Lester against right-hander James Shields, who leads the majors with 11 complete games this season. Total workhorse.

Rays skipper Joe Maddon knows it won't be easy, but he believes in his team:

"We all believe we have a solid chance to do this...We’ve got to stay very hot. I think we’re committed to this."

We'll see! While the Rays pulled within 4 1/2 game of the American League Wild Card-leading Red Sox this weekend, the two teams meet once more when they kick off a four-game series this Thursday at Fenway Park.

The Sox will be fine. It will be an exciting month like you said, but it's going to come down to Boston getting the Wild Card and winning the World Series.
