The New York Mets have desperately added two
Each of them agreed to one-year-contracts this week with Capuano getting $1.5 million and Buchholz receiving a $600,000 non-guaranteed agreement. Better than nothing, I suppose.
Capuano, a 32-year-old lefty, went 4-4 with a 3.95 ERA last year with the Milwaukee Brewers after a two-year absence from the big leagues due to his second Tommy John surgery. However, he was an 18-game winner back in 2005 before making the National League All-Star team the following season.
Buchholz 29, managed just nine relief appearances between the Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays last year. The right-hander was a combined 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA on his comeback trail from elbow surgery which kept him out of the game for all of the 2009 season.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the team designated reliever Ryota Igarashi for assignment. Capuano will compete for a spot in the rotation this Spring while Buccholz attempts to make the cut for the bullpen. Umm, way to go Mets?
