Albert Pujols to Cardinals: Show Me the Money
Albert Pujols has said time and again that he wants to retire as a St. Louis Cardinal. However, both sides have been mum in providing an update on negotiations for any new long-term deal. Bill DeWitt Jr., the team's CEO, has hinted that talks are "not that far along," which is not that good of news.
In an attempt to move things along, the All-Star first baseman's agent, Don Lozano, has set a quickly-approaching deadline for the team, demanding they have a contract extension in place by the beginning of Spring Training. Pujols believes any negotiation beyond that date and especially into the season would only be a distraction.
Seriously, that's just around the corner. Pujols and the rest of the Cardinals position players are supposed to report to camp in Jupiter, Florida by February 18, while Spring Training games are like 10 weeks away. That's enough time to figure out how much to pay him and for how long, right?
The three-time National League MVP has played his entire 10-year career with the Cardinals. He's the face of the franchise. In fact, he's so popular that he'll be honored at the annual Baseball Writers Association of America dinner Sunday night, which also happens to be his 31st birthday. Super special.
Pujols, who earned his second Gold Glove and sixth Silver Slugger award last season, batted .312 with an NL-best 42 home runs and 118 RBI, after playing in all but four regular season games in 2010. Workhorse.

Um.. might want to take a closer look at your calendar, Sooze. We're only FIVE weeks away from Spring Training! :)
Thanks Jim, I meant Spring Training games were like 10 weeks away. As far as I know, that's when Pujols and his agents will pull negotiations. I'm sure they'll get something figured out by then though!
