Acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in a six-player trade this weekend, Zack Greinke has finally shaken the dust of Kansas City off his cleats.
The Brewers received the right-hander along with shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and some cash in exchange for shortstop Alcides Escobar and center fielder Lorenzo Cain -- two Major League ready players. The Royals were also allowed two decent pitching prospects, rightys Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odirizzi.
Coming off a disappointing season in which the 27-year-old Greinke went 10-14 with a 4.17 ERA, he's still due $13.5 million in each of the final two seasons remaining on the $38 million, four year contract he agreed to with the Royals in January of 2009.
Greinke is 60-67 with a 3.82 ERA in over six seasons with Kansas City, which just goes to show what little run support he actually got to enjoy there.
The 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner had this to say about his new digs:
The main reason I wanted to get out, I mean, preferred to get out of Kansas City, is I wanted to be on a team that was trying to win this year because as a pitcher you don’t really know how long your career is going to be... Just really wanted to be in a place where they were playing to win games right away. The Brewers have made quite a few moves this offseason, acquiring Shaun Marcum as well, who will join a rotation that already includes Yovani Gallardo. Let's not forget the offense, namely All-Stars Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and Corey Hart.
Looks like the Brew Crew, who expect a shipment of 1,440 no. 13 Greinke t-shirts this Thursday, may be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Finally, an NL Central title to look forward to!
I feel just terrible for the Royals. They were so close to being good again!
