Rich Harden Reunites with Athletics

The Oakland Athletics have brought Rich Harden back to his roots. The pitcher finalized a $1.5 million, one-year contract with the team Tuesday after passing his physical.

Harden, who went 5-5 with a 5.58 ERA in 20 appearances with the American League champion Texas Rangers, was designated for assignment immediately after the regular season ended due to control and injury issues. He kicked off the year as the team's no. 2 starter, but ended up walking 62 batters in 92 innings (sucking sound.)

The righty went 1-2 with a 2.45 ERA in just 25.2 innings for Oakland back in 2007 because of an inflamed right shoulder, and then didn’t pitch after July 7 that year. The season before, he went 4-0 in nine games, spending time on the disabled list with a strained back and then a strained elbow ligament.

Long story short, Harden is injury prone as hell. Looks like the A's memories of him may be a bit clouded. Or they're a bit desperate to fill that fifth rotation spot.

I know he hasn't been that great recently, but a healthy Rich Harden can be pretty good. Hopefully he's over his injury issues!

At least they didn't break the bank I guess.
