National(s) Day Of Mourning

Did you hear that? It was the sound of all 68 of the Nationals' fans along with the 70 bajillion heartbroken Stephen Strasburg fans collectively yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

The 22-year-old rookie phenom underwent a second MRI which revealed he has a "significant tear" in his right elbow. The tear will most likely require Tommy John surgery, and then about 12 - 18 months of extensive rehab.

For the two months Strasburg got to play, he showed that he was worth every ounce of the hype surrounding the record deal he signed with the Nats. In his big league debut in June, he won our hearts with 14 strikeouts. He then continued his badassery by amassing a total of 92 strikeouts over 68 innings. He went 5-3 on the season with a 2.91 ERA. With only 12 starts, he leads his team in strikeouts. Impressive.

At least next year Bryce Harper and Wilson Ramos will try to pick up where Strasburg left off in making people excited to watch a Nationals game. Get well soon, little Stevie. We'll miss you.

One of the 68, checking in. We'll be okay, as we're pretty tough at this point.

Hopefully, Strasburg's recovery will be quick and uneventful like dear Jordan Zimmermann, who returned to the mound last night.
