Strasburg Named NL Player of the Week

Stephen Strasburg was awarded the National League Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Not bad for his first week on the job.

The Washington Nationals’ hard-throwing rookie sensation is 2-0 with an obscene number of strikeouts (22) and a 2.19 ERA in his first two big league starts.

Not only were his 22 Ks the most in the majors last week, but only Karl Spooner of the 1954 Brooklyn Dodgers has sent down more batters via strikeout in his first two major league starts. Despite walking five batters on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians, he still got the win thanks to the bats of Ian Desmond, Ivan Rodriguez and Michael Morse during the 9-4 win.

Even more exciting than reading the Top 10 list on The Late Show with David Letterman is the fact that the National Baseball Hall of Fame has already been supplied with his hat and a ball from his major league debut. Now that's some crazy hype to live up to.

Up next: the Chicago White Sox this Friday.

He's out of control! Very haoy to have him on the team, but not as excited as I am to see Harper behind the plate!
