Seriously? Milton Bradley?

Seriously, Mariners? You now, I was really excited for the Seattle Mariners for a little while there. They were movin' and shakin' all over the place this winter.

First they signed Chone Figgins, adding some speed and pop to the top of their batting order. Also, he's great defensively and can play pretty much anywhere. It's not like they had to break the bank, either. They managed to grab the second third baseman for $36 million over four years with a possible 2014 option. Not bad.

Then, they nabbed a whopper: 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee, who will be one half of what is likely to be one of the most killer one-two punches in baseball along with Felix Hernandez.

The Mariners were beginning to take shape as the team to contend with in the AL West.

Then they totally crapped the bed. Milton Bradley you guys? Are you joking me? Do you not read the news, Jack Zduriencik? You'll regret this, buddy. Mark my words. That dude is loony toons. A bad egg. A rotten apple. He'll bring dysfunction to your happy family... and he's not really that good at baseball anymore, either.

Get ready to be persecuted, Seattle fans. It's going to be your fault soon enough.

Couldn't disagree more. They traded a completely useless player and a small amount of money, for a potentially very useful player with huge upside. Milton Bradley has been well above average offensively for 7 consecutive seasons (yes, even in 2009). Seattle is by far the best fit for a player like Bradley. The media is much less intense, the fans are much less intense, and he's been coached by Wakamatsu before... with no problems.

And if for whatever reason things don't work out, they can cut him with minimal losses. The fact is, they just seriously improved their team and effectively pushed themselves past the Angels talent-wise. Yet another absolutely brilliant move by Jack Zduriencik.

Think I might have to agree with Griffin on this one.

Hijinks or no, Milton Bradley is a tremendously better hitter than Carlos Silva is a pitcher.

And yes, out of the spotlight in Seattle, and back in the AL, he may see the statistical surge that he did when he played for Texas (his 2008 stats are pretty sick).

Hmmmmm....

Option 1: Carlos Silva in Mop up duty or DFA him and his 2 years 24 million dollars.
Essentially 24 Million down the drain with ZERO baseball production

Option 2: Milton Bradley...Near the Same amount of money over 2 years....Miltons OPS last year (on a bad year) would have been 3rd on the Mariners in 2009)....
If Milton scratches wrong...Jack DFA's him.
If He Produces...and Only Gets ejected 1 out of every 30 games...
MARINERS GOT A MEGA DEAL!!!!!!!

The worst the Mariners can end up with....is breaking even with what they had with Silva

I hate Bradley to my core, but Silva was getting payed to actually lose games, I don't think the deal was that horrible, and if nothing else Don Wakamatsu isn't going to play Bradley's game like Pinella did, he's probably the calmest manager I have ever seen.

I can only hope that Seattle helps somehow to straighten him out.

Nah...he's a mess of a human being, but all that means is that he's a convenient scapegoat when things go horribly wrong (or, as the peoples of the future will come to refer to it, when things go all 2009 Cubs). When he's not injured or suspended, he'll be a great benefit to the team. And regardless, he's worth a lot more than the bloated corpse of Carlos Silva plus $3M a year.

Well Milton Bradley is a headcase for sure. However, he is a talented player and they were able to ship out Carlos Silva, who is just AWFUL. So it really wasn't a bad trade.

I love hearing that "Mark my words" crap. Its generally a precursor to hearing something that is totally unreliable.

Umm, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with all of you. Zduriencik couldn't have traded Silva (a decent #4 or 5 starter) for someone a little less nuts not at the tail end of his career? Bradley is a loose cannon and a total whack job. Enjoy.

I don't know if I'd call Silva decent, but there are definitely worse. His numbers from last year should'nt even be brought up since he only had 8 starts, and he struggled in 2008, but has never really pitched anywhere with god run support. Hard to win games when the teams you pitch behind can barely provide 3 runs per game! I'm sounding like a Silva supporter here, which I'm not, just don't think he was the crap end of the stick in this trade. Bradley is a scene-maker and a clubhouse cancer.

I guess none of you "Silva supporters" remember last year when he was also a clubhouse cancer.

Bradley is clearly the crazy guy that needs emotional support within the clubhouse. Silva is just an a-hole.

Bradley has talent. Silva has the makings of a nice sinker... and thats it. Bradley is likely worth his paycheck and Silva absolutely will never be worth 12 million.

Even if Bradley goes crazy they can just release him. Like they were likely going to do with Silva. The upside lies with Bradley. Silva has no upside.
