You know, we're starting to run out of words to express the excitement we've been feeling over the Florida Marlins. The hot-hitting club earned their seventh straight victory Sunday, bringing their record to 11-1.
Centerfielder Cody Ross hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning before nailing a three-run double in the ninth to aid the Marlins in their 7-4 win over the Washington Nationals. Don't be unimpressed just because it's the Nats that they beat. Got it? Okay then.
Of course, the pull-ahead was sparked by Emilio Bonifacio, who led off the ninth by drawing a walk off Saul Rivera before John Baker followed with a double into the left-center gap to tie the game at four-all. After Hanley Ramirez struck out, Ross Gload was intentionally walked. Dan Uggla went down looking and Jeremy Hermida walked on a 3-2 pitch to juice the bases before Ross ripped his double to right-center, clearing the bags and impressing the ladies. The 28-year-old finished his 3-for-4 day with five RBI.
The Fish head to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates Monday night at 7pm ET for a three-game series. Last season, they went 3-2 vs. the Bucs in two April series.
