In the spirit of the Chicago Cubs' epic collapse into oblivion, I'd like to recommend some awesome reading material.Crazy '08 by Cait Murphy is a fun and informative look at the Cubbies' long road to the 1908 World Series Championship, and seriously one of the best books on baseball I've read.

Baseball in 1908 has riots and deaths, scandal and arrests, the bizarre (stealing first base) and the beautiful (a perfect game); the sublime (the Brown-Mathewson pitching duels) and the ridiculous (anything to do with Rube Waddell). In 1908, players take the vaudeville stage, knockwurst is sold from wicker baskets, and poetry appears on the sports pages. The whole season is rife with drama -- comic, tragic, odd, and merely incredible.Enjoy!

In the spirit of the Cubs choking, I recommend W.P. Kinsella's short story, "The Last Pennant Before Armageddon." Classic.
I love that this book is written by a woman.

Here is how the Cubs can win the World Series...
- they need to start wearing those wool uniforms
- only sign players who are 5'8 and white (Theriot and Fontenot still have jobs)
- pay their players in Red Man tobacco and prohibition-era moonshine
- all of the players wives must wear flapper outfits
- pay some of the White Sox players to play day games for them. Disguise them in large mustaches, it worked back in the silent film era.
