Hamels, Furcal Take Phillies to the Show

Cole Hamels becomes a man.Ladies and gentlemen, Cole Hamels: your NLCS MVP.

Over seven amazing Game 5 innings, the 24-year-old lefty surrendered only a solo shot to Manny Ramirez in the 5-1 victory over the beat-up Los Angeles Dodgers. Over 14 NLCS innings total, Hamels gave up just three runs -- Manny being responsible for 2/3 of them.

At long last, the Phillies are searching for their second World Series title beginning next Wednesday night in either St. Petersberg or Boston, with the Rays leading the Red Sox 3-1 in the ALCS heading into Thursday's game in Beantown.

Last season, the Phils became the first professional sports team to ever lose 10,000 games. Even though it took until the last weekend of the regular season for them to clinch a playoff spot, I feel as though their luck has turned and their fans can finally stop all that bitching.

Also, the city of Philadelphia would like to send a fruit basket along with a meat and cheese tray to Rafael Furcal, who managed to create three errors in the fifth inning of Wednesday's game. Way to go, buddy!
