You Can't Touch This

Matt Garza tossed 7.2 scoreless innings Saturday night to aid the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays in a 6-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, their second victory since riding a 7-game losing streak into the All-Star break.

The righty allowed just two hits -- both singles -- striking out six and walking none. This gem comes on the tail of a horrible outing where Garza surrendered seven runs on 11 hits in their 8-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians.

Also back on the prowl is badass youngster Evan Longoria. Having struggled over his previous seven games (3-for-23) the well-paid rookie fouled two pitches off his ankle before busting out of his skid with a bases-clearing bomb off Jays ace Roy Halladay that put the Rays ahead 5-0.

Hammertime: Perhaps the MOST EXCITING part of this game came before it, where MC Hammer, who was at Tropicana Field to perform in a postgame show, took batting practice with Tampa Bay owner Stuart Sternberg. He hit two balls off the left-field wall... though there is no video to prove this actually happened.

But as long as he can still swing a bat, maybe the Oakland A's (whose own Reggie Jackson dubbed him the Hammer) can toss him a contract.

So that's how The Hammer spends his free time... or is this work?

Giving MC Hammer a contract might not be that bad of an idea for the As. Maybe he can pitch?

I really needed to be reminded of how lame that video was.
