The righty, who is 13-4 with a 3.27 ERA after being selected to his third straight NL All-Star team, allowed six hits over six innings, striking out six Nats and walking two. This marks the 16th of 19 games in which Webb has lasted at least six innings for the NL West-leading D'Backs.
Meanwhile, opposing pitcher Odalis Perez was ejected after charging plate umpire Angel Hernandez, who called a second balk on the lefty in just the third inning. He had to be restrained by skipper Manny Acta, pitching coach Randy St. Claire and second base umpire Eric Cooper. It was awesome.
Perez, who is a walking thesaurus for the word dumb, had a few choice words regarding the incident:
"He’s just stupid. He’s stupid and an idiot," Perez said of the ump. "This is the third or fourth time he called a balk on me. I lost the game twice. It’s like he has something personal against me. I hate that. I know I’m going to get fined, but I don’t care. I want to protect myself and protect my teammates, too... He’s awful. He’s the worst."[AP] | [Nats320] | [AZ Snakepit] | [Left Field Corner]
