Pujols Spoils Shutout with No. 300

Albert Pujols, who is still batting lights out at .348 on the season, nailed his 300th career homer on Friday during the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 loss to the rival Chicago Cubs.

The slugging first baseman ruined the shutout with his 18th homer of the season, nicking the left-field foul pole on a 2-2 pitch from reliever Bob Howry in the eighth.

Pujols, 28 years and 170 days old, is the fifth-youngest player to reach the 300-homer milestone, beating out Hall of Famer Mel Ott by one day.
