Mommy, I Need a Band-Aid

Most of us work pretty hard to earn a living. A lot of us use our hands every day, punch in and out and break a sweat. And sometimes we get blisters. Do we call in sick? Do we use 15 days of vacation? No.

The Chicago Cubs moved closer Kerry Wood to the disabled list Thursday, retroactive to July 14th, FOR THE 12TH TIME IN HIS 10-YEAR CAREER with a blister on his pitching hand. I realize it must be pretty tough to throw a baseball with a blister on your right index finger, but does it constitute a trip to the DL? Probably not for most people. Am I calling him a Sissypants McWhinerface? Ah, yes.

Wood, who is 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 24 saves in 29 opportunities, hasn't pitched since July 11th. Because of a blister. He's hoping to return to the hill this Tuesday when the Cubs face their division rival Milwaukee Brewers... unless, of course, his blister still hurts.

Sissypants McWhinerface? Perfect nickname for Woody.

It looks like Kerry Wood is finally over his arm issues, but now a blister derails him...just get the fucking thing lanced and move on!!

But I'm sure Kerry got his blister emailing his brother too. Right Carlos?

On the other hand, Josh Beckett only had 99 starts 2002 - 2005 due to blister problems. I say err on the side of caution unless you want a repeat of the Dusty Baker pitcher-murdering era.

Hey, I have no problem with Sissypants sitting out for two weeks with a blister. Of course, since he's not available to play for his employer in any capacity whatsoever, I expect him to voluntarily NOT GET PAID AT ALL during this difficult time.
What's that, Sissy? You suddenly feel much better? Ahh, I thought you might.

Mike Hampton is off to the bowling alley right now to work on his blisters just before tonight's "start".
