Your Mama's So Uggla

Dan Uggla hits bombs.
Dan Uggla may be one of the biggest reasons the Florida Marlins are still enjoying first place in the NL East.

The hard-hitting second baseman hit his 14th homer and 32nd RBI of the season Tuesday to help the Marlins take the opener of a three-game series against the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 3-2.

Uggla went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer, swiping a base and scoring twice to raise his batting average to .323. He led off the sixth inning with his sixth longball in 10 games to put his team ahead 3-1, becoming the first Marlin to hit 10 homers in a month since Cliff Floyd did so in April of 2002.

They spoiled the evening of AZ righty Micah Owings, who fanned a career-high ten batters, but surrendered three runs over seven innings.

The assumption that the Fish will begin sucking again once their schedule toughens up may be put to rest if they can muster a series win or sweep against the tough-as-nails D'Backs.
