Placido Polanco went deep twice to help his Detroit Tigers beat the hobbled New York Yankees Wednesday night, by a score of 6-2.
Polanco hit leadoff bombs -- his first and only two of the season -- in the sixth and eighth innings. This, after going 4-for-5 with two runs scored in Detroit’s 6-4 win Tuesday night during the series opener, raises his batting average to .228.
So, after starting the season off at a miserable 2-10, the Motor City Kitties find themselves creeping back up to .500 baseball at 13-15, winning seven of their last nine games.
In other Tigers news, with the return of reliever Francisco Cruceta, the club has traded Jason Grilli to the Colorado Rockies for Class-A righty Zach Simons to make room on the roster.

I've heard that when Poloanco laughs, it's a really high-pitched giggle. True. He's also a frickin' genius, turns out he really has a lot of brain in that head.
Not sorry or surprised to see Grilli go, hope these bullpen changes help some. And whatever Leyland muttered to Bonderman on the mound seemed to work.
Yay.
He's a genius? I always assumed he just had downs syndrome.
I can tell a Twins fan wrote this post. Polanco is not a misshapen melon - he's Mr. Potato Head. I'm just glad his back is feeling better because when he's not playing well the line-up tends to sag.
That's why it's so silly to get caught up in the first two weeks of the season. The Tigers are right back up there near .500, and I would expect them to turn the corner and keep heading north.
I don't know, Mr. Potato Head's head tapers more towards the top. Polanco is sort of bulbous, more round.
As long he keeps up the long ball and starts a new errorless streak, his head can be as big as A-Rod's...oh, wait. No one'e head is THAT big.
No doubt about it, Andrew. I actually went on record here at the end of this radio show saying that the Tigers would not only win the ALC, but go onto win the World Series. I was greeted by hearty chuckles.
