The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to terms with Japanese free-agent Hiroki Kuroda on a three-year, $35.2 million deal Saturday. The team plans to introduce him at Dodger Stadium Sunday.The 32-year-old righty had spent the past 11 seasons with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, where he compiled a 103-89 record and 3.69 ERA over 271 games. Last season, Kuroda went 12-8 with a 3.56 ERA in 26 games -- seven of them complete.
He made the Japanese All-Star team in each of the past three seasons, with his best year coming in 2006, where he went 13-6 with a league-leading 1.85 ERA in 26 games. Kuroda was also a member of the bronze medal-winning Japanese Olympic team in 2004.
With a rotation including Brad Penny, Derek Lowe and Chad Billingsley, Kuroda will compete for a spot with righties Jason Schmidt, who signed a three-year, $47 million contract last year, and Esteban Loaiza, who was claimed off waivers from the Oakland Athletics in mid-August.
