While standing in the St. Louis Cardinals on-deck circle Friday night, Juan Encarnacion was nailed square in his left eye by an Aaron Miles foul ball.
The velocity of the ball was made clear when it bounced a few feet in the opposite direction after making contact with Encarnacion's face. He remained conscious after the hit and stayed on the field for several minutes before walking off with help from trainers and a towel covering the swollen left side of his face.

Encarnacion sustained multiple fractures of his left eye socket and was hospitalized for continued observation, with friend and teammate Albert Pujols by his side until 3am.
This incident marks the second serious facial injury Encarnacion has suffered in his career. During his rookie season with the Detroit Tigers in 1999, he was hit in the face by a pitch, fracturing his left cheekbone and breaking his nose.

That is so scary. Hopefully he can continue on with his career.
Still no word on how bad it is? I'm with Megs when I wonder if this will be a Tony C. type thing.
Very sad situation - hopefully his vision will remain intact.
