Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher and savior, Brandon Webb, whose awesomeness knows no bounds, just kind of chuckles when players assume they have a chance to cross the plate while he's on the mound.
It happens few and far between - just 66 times this season - and not at all over the last 42 innings.
The record? It's only 18 innings away, held by the great Orel Hershiser. Two more shutouts should be a piece of cake, right?
"Just two more shutouts? Oh, I should have that no problem,'' jokes Webb. "It's in the back pocket.''But it's no joke. Webb pitched some serious two-hit baseball for his third straight shutout Friday night, adding 9 more innings to his scoreless streak of 42 - the 12th-longest in history - when the D'backs beat the Atlanta Braves, 4-0.
The 28-year-old righty is set to start the finale of a three-game home series against the Milwaukee Brewers this Wednesday. Considering how the Crew have let the Cubs take over the NL Central lead and the Cardinals come knocking down the door, 9 more goose eggs should be as good as on the board.

There's no doubt in my mind that'll he tie this record in his next two starts.
If he can strike out a few more batters, lower his ERA a bit and just all-around improve, he could give Chris Young a run for the Cy Young Award...
