Jake Peavy's Badassery Knows No Bounds
In another successful attempt to sway votes for his National League Cy Young candidacy, San Diego Padres hurler Jake Peavy earned his 15th win, striking out eleven Arizona Diamondbacks for a 3-1 victory to slide within 2 games in the West.
Peavy (2.18 ERA) tied his career high in wins (with just 5 losses on the season) and reached the double digits in K's for the 8th time for an NL-leading 197 strikeouts. The stud righty also became San Diego's career leader in strikeouts, passing Andy Benes.
The only other pitcher in the majors with a lower ERA than Peavy is fellow Padre Chris Young (9-4, 2.12 ERA), who is also awesome.
The NL West's top two teams will play six more crucial games over the next 10 days. Following this four-game set, they will play three more in Phoenix starting next Monday. Time to pull out the big guns!
