Wednesday's Babelicious Scoreboard
Here come the Cubbies.
Carlos Zambrano (12-7, 3.69 ERA... always with the crazy look in his eye) pitched five shutout innings to become the National League's first 12-game winner Wednesday night, allowing only two hits and striking out three with 2 walks. Coincidentally, the right-handed ace is 7-2 over his last nine starts since kicking Michael Barrett's ass around the clubhouse.
Sean Gallagher tossed four solid innings of relief for Chicago, in which he gave up four hits and the lone San Francisco Giants run - on a Jacque Jones error in the ninth inning.
Giants starter Matt Cain (3-11, 3.87 ERA) lasted only four innings and surrendered 6 runs on 4 hits, walking five with three strikeouts.
Cubs catcher Koyie Hill drove in a career-high five runs on a pair of doubles and Jones added two on an RBI single in the fourth. Cliff Floyd, Angel Pagan, Mark DeRosa and Mike Fontenot each drove in a run for Chicago, as well.
Watch out! The Cubs now sit just 3.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds was out of the lineup once again to rest his old-ass legs. However, he is expected to start Thursday's series finale.

Well, it would be a huge celebration if it were someone else breaking the record, in my opinion. Someone like say, Junior...
dear god,
please don't fuck with me like you did in 2003 and 1998 and 1989 and 1984.
they haven't been to a world series since 1945 when my parents were innocent little 6 (almost 7) year olds.
don't let this surge by the cubs peter into utter failure.
I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
thx in advance for not being a cocktease,
deborah
Ah, the battered and bruised love affair between fans and the mid-season record...
