Thursday's Babelicious Scoreboard
Never before have we had a post-game rant about the same two clubs two days in a row, but this game was rather significant.
We're teetering on the brink of history this weekend, as Barry Bonds is only 2 home runs shy of tying big league legend Henry Aaron for the lead on baseball's all-time homers list.
Love him or hate him, it's happening.
Bonds went 3-for-3 Thursday, smashing #752 on the first pitch he saw before driving a single to left-centerfield that scored two in the third. The controversial slugger then nailed #753 to deep center with two men on in the seventh. Yep, that's six runs batted in.
However, his San Francisco Giants committed three errors and fell 9-8 to the rolling Chicago Cubs.
Cubs starter Ted Lilly allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over five innings, walking one and striking out another. Benjie Molina, the only other San Francisco player to put any numbers on the board, homered off reliever Billy Petrick in the sixth.
The Cubbies absolutely destroyed Giants starter Matt Morris, banging out 12 hits for 8 runs in just 4.2 innings. Cliff Floyd scored on a passed ball in the third and Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-5, driving in Lilly on a double in the fifth inning.
Aramis Ramirez also had a 3-for-5 night and Chicago saw more offensive production from Jacque Jones, Mike Fontenot and Angel Pagan.
Bonds will get another chance to swing for the fences when the Giants open a three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park this evening.

Opposing teams better watch out for Ted Lilly, base stealer.
Bonds homeruns were amazing. First one lands on Sheffield Ave. Second one he absolutely crushed to centerfield into a driving wind.
My guess is he takes at least 2 of the next 3 off before the Giants come back home on Monday.
Considering Saturday is a day game after a night game, he'll most likely play Friday and maybe even Sunday. Suppan pitches tonight and Vargas on Sunday so... we'll see.
I've come to the realization that, since it's going to happen anyway (no freak accidents after all...thanks alot, God; last time I pray - you just lost yourself a customer, big guy), I want it to happen as soon as possible so that I don't have to hear from Barry the jackass or see his ginormous shiny steroid-addled melon head anymore.
b conceded yesterday -- our household is firmly behind the cubs now (unless a miracle occurs in the AL Central, that is).
