On the day their greatest player was enshrined into the Hall of Fame, the San Diego Padres performed their best offensive show of the season.
Putting up their highest run total in five years, the Padres hammered out 19 hits for 18 runs against the Houston Astros Sunday. Meanwhile, San Diego legend Tony Gwynn participated in induction ceremonies in Cooperstown.
Mike Cameron and Adrian Gonzalez both went 2-for-5, hitting a pair of two-run shots during the 11-run first, chasing Astros starter Jason Jennings off the hill just 2/3 of the way into the inning. Jennings allowed all eleven runs to score on 8 hits with 3 walks.
Kevin Kouzmanoff had 3 RBIs, including a two-run homer off closer Brad Lidge in the ninth, while Brian Giles, Josh Bard and Milton Bradley combined for 6 runs.
Tim Stauffer, called up by the Pads the day before, added a two-run single. He lasted only 3.2 innings though, giving up 7 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 3 K's.
Fun fact from Elias: It was the most runs allowed by the Astros in a single inning since they surrendered 14 in the first against the Cincinnati Reds back on August 3, 1989.

Sigh. It's not too hard too look like offensive geniuses when the Astros starting pitching was as gruesome as it was yesterday.
