2007 All-Star Starters Named
Jim Leyland chain-smoked all night and finally decided on a starter for the American League. Dan Haren - the smoking hot Oakland Athletics ace who boasts an AL-leading 2.30 ERA with a 10-3 record. Ah, let's not forget the Grizzly Adams neck beard.
After dropping his first two starts of the season, Haren knocked off ten straight victories before losing his last one against the Seattle Mariners Friday night.
It took National League manager Tony La Russa only one vodka tonic to decide on Jake Peavy to start for his roster.
Maybe it was Peavy's 9-3 record for the San Diego Padres or his low 2.13 ERA and 125 strikeouts this season that made the decision so easy.
Peavy struggled through last season, ending the horror with an 11-14 record and 4.09 ERA in his worst year since becoming a full-time starter in 2003.
This season he has managed a glorious comeback, trailing only teammate Chris Young for the lowest ERA in the majors.

Hooray for Jake! I can't wait for the rest of the world to fall in love with him.
Way to work in Leyland's chain smoking and La Russa's alcohol dependency. I like your style.
I'm excited for him too, Tara.
And Bass, we like to keep it classy around here.
To all the panty-dropping screaming girls out there who are just like me and love a man in a baseball uniform, hands off, Jake! Love him from a far. He's all mine...if I can catch him! :-)
Neck-beards have a place in sports, but those places are playoff hockey, high school fottball and the WNBA.
Er, "high school fottball" is football for the double-vowel challenged. Just thought you should know that.
