Here Come The Kansas City Royals!

Well okay, probably not. But it sure is something to score 17 runs twice in one week. That's like, a whole month's worth of runs right there!

The I-70 Series rubber match went out as a slugfest, and it started early. The Kansas City Royals enjoyed an eight-run second inning followed by a six-run fourth - something they've only accomplished three times as a club - but not since 1974.

The (World Champion) St. Louis Cardinals had eleven hits, including a three-run shot by Chris Duncan and a leadoff longball by Albert Pujols in the seventh.

Cardinals starter Kip Wells lasted just 4 outs and managed to blow two different leads. He surrendered six runs on three hits, walked four, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch, just like the guy who leads the big leagues in losses... oh wait. That would be Kip Wells.

The bullpen wasn't much better, unfortunately. KC pounded out twelve more hits off of the relief corps, including a lights-out show by Mark Teahen, who drove in five runs with a single and a pair of triples.

Tony Peña Jr. had his second career four-hit game, also scoring three runs, along with Joey Gathright and David DeJesus, who also had three RBIs. Alex Gordon had two hits, including a home run and Emil Brown had three hits, driving in three runs.

Zack Greinke earned the victory by limiting the Cards to one run and four hits over four innings, helping the Royals improve to 26-41 overall. They've won six of nine in Interleague play, but remain in very last place of the AL Central, 14 games behind the Cleveland Indians.

Last Sunday, they scored 17 runs to the Philadelphia Phillies' five.

The 28-35 Cardinals on the other hand, have lost five of their last seven and are now 6.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.
