Joe Crede May Need Surgery
The struggling Chicago White Sox placed Joe Crede on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation Wednesday - an issue that has bothered him all season.
Crede underwent an MRI on Tuesday and after seeing a few back specialists, was faced with the possibility of surgery.
The 29-year-old third baseman has a history of back issues. After deciding not to go through with offseason surgery to repair two herniated discs, Crede is batting .216 with four homers and 22 RBIs - a rather steep decrease from last season when he hit .283 with 30 homers and 94 RBIs.
Related, the Sox recalled third baseman Josh Fields from the AAA Charlotte Knights to replace Crede.
Fields is batting .283 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs in 56 minor league games this season.
