Greg Maddux Has Still Got It
After 685 major league games, Greg Maddux has still got it.
The veteran righty pitched his first complete game in two years last night, in a 7-1 San Diego Padres victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Maddux (3-2, 3.20 ERA) retired the first 16 batters he faced, struck out five and walked none in his 109th career complete game, picking up win #336 and strikeout #3200. Ridiculous.
The 41-year-old carried a three-hit shutout into the ninth, but Juan Castro singled and advanced to third on Ryan Freel's base hit. One out later, Ken Griffey Jr. ruined everything with a sac fly before Brandon Phillips struck out to end the game.
Maddux required only 46 pitches for the first five innings, totalling 96 for the entire contest.

It's like geriatric day around here!
Does that fire you up, Bass?
Greg Maddux started pitching before I was born.
Just wanted to clarify that one.
Holy crap!
Yeah Maddux is old.. But he's one of the best of all time. Look at his 16 Gold Gloves and 4 Cy Youngs. Who cares if hes old. He doesnt throw hard at all, so his arm has been strongh is whole career. I'd take him over Clemens any day.

Like I said, he's still got it. He throws 86 mph and still makes batters look ridiculous.
